BURKITT'S WATTLE Seeds | Acacia burkettii
Acacia burkittii is a species of wattle endemic to Western Australia, South Australia and western New South Wales where it is found in arid zones. Its commonly known as Burkitt's Wattle. Previously this species was referred to as Acacia acuminata subsecies burkittii, but is now considered to be a separate species.
Acacia burkittii is a bushy shrub or a tree with a dense, rounded crown. It usually grows up to 4m tall, occasionally reaching 10m. The plant can have a short bole up to 1m long or can be sparingly branched near ground level. Although it produces true leaves as a seedling, like most members of this genus, the mature plant does not have true leaves but has leaf like flattened stems called phyllodes.
Burkitt’s Wattle has been suggested as a potential commercial seed crop for areas such as Western Australia.
