⠀About Chios Mastic Gum Resin
⠀
Chios Mastic Gum Resin is the naturally aromatic resin of Pistacia lentiscus, traditionally cultivated in the mastic-growing villages of southern Chios, Greece.
⠀
During the summer harvest season, growers carefully prepare the ground beneath the trees before making a series of shallow incisions in the trunk and larger branches. Clear droplets of resin slowly emerge, naturally harden into distinctive tears and are then carefully gathered, washed, cleaned and graded.
⠀
Sacred Plants Australia supplies genuine Chios mastic in Small Tears No. 5 grade, selected for its naturally small, irregular resin tears and distinctive aromatic character.
⠀
Chios mastic has Protected Designation of Origin (PDO) status within the European Union, recognising its geographical origin and the traditional production associated with genuine mastic from Chios.
